July Good Dinner: Trattoria Marcella

From the President:

I was really excited when Brady chose Trattoria Marcella for July GDC. It is always on everyone’s list of favorites yet I had not been in years.
Parking was easy, but crossing Watson was a bit trickier. The restaurant was decorated just fine, but nothing outstanding. We were seated in a more private room that was very nice and seemed a bit more quiet. Diners gave Trattoria Marcella 4 spoons for good atmosphere.
Service was great. Nothing less than I would have expected from such a St. Louis landmark. The waiter did arrive with my entrée while I was still finishing up my appetizer (a big pet peeve of mine), but overall, the staff was accommodating and attentive. Diners gave Trattoria Marcella 4 spoons for good service.
The food, as always, was outstanding! I think everyone found their food to be delicious. My calamari over flash fried spinach was well seasoned. My pasta Bolognese was creamy and flavorful. I remember hearing good things about the hummus and certainly no complaints! Diners gave Trattoria Marcella 4 ½ spoons for really good food.
Overall, the restaurant was as it always has been: a great restaurant. They could probably use some sprucing up, but what restaurant that stays so busy has time for that? In general, diners gave Trattoria Marcella 4 ½ spoons for being a really good restaurant.

  1. My creme brulee was not cooked properly but the waiter noticed and brought me a new one without my even having to bring it to his attention.

  2. The timeliness was a little less than optimal as regards the server taking orders. It seemed as though the server had too many tables. When we arrived it took 15 minutes for him to ask if we would like appetizers.

  3. They accommodated us who were an hour early. They already had a huge table set up in a back room. They still kept an eye on us and always asked if we needed anything. Food was exactly as ordered and the service was pleasant and professional.

  4. Definitely above average Italian food. Very basic menu but fresh ingredients and wonderful taste. Thicker than normal toasted ravioli with an excellent meat/cheese stuffing ( not the frozen and reheated kind like most). The stuffed artichoke was perfectly seasoned, not overly garlic tasting. The bruschetta would have actually been great on its own. The tomatoes on top tasted home grown. Awesome! The three cannelloni noodles were generous in size and the chicken/cheese stuffing was phenomenal! -- Nathan

  5. The atmosphere was great since we had our own private room.

  6. Quiet back room. Typical intimate decor with white linen. Street parking.
